My friend’s mother had a massive coronary this morning and passed away. She was 49. Forty-nine. My friend was in class teaching, the secretary came to get her, and she was told that her mother was “sick” and that she needed to go to the hospital. She got there, they took her to her mother’s room, and she (and her father) held her mother’s hand, and her mother died.

I am horrified. Horrified. My friend is relatively young (only 27) and very very close with her parents. This is going to wreck her, for so long.

I don’t know what to do, either… she was supposed to be coming on this trip with us tomorrow. The trip can’t be cancelled or annulled. Which means that I have to go on the trip, and I can’t be there for my friend. I called and left a message on her machine, texted her with an offer of any help whatsoever but what can you do?

So sad. So sad.

Avon Calling

Avon Calling

My sister decided to start selling Avon. Which, fine, whatever… I don’t really think of people buying anything from Avon anymore. What with all the places that you can buy makeup online, and have it delivered…

But I was checking out their catalogue and they had a purse that I wanted desperately. Well. More like NEEDED. (Hah right, needed… but wanted and had use for). I have never managed to carry a purse for very long, mainly because I am disorganized and everything in there gets tangled and messed up.

So when I saw this purse I knew that I needed it.butler bag

Now, mine is teal blue on the outside, and apple green on the inside, but it’s not the colour that I want you to look at here. Do you see the inside of the purse? The little compartments?

THESE LITTLE COMPARTMENTS. They are saving my life. I’ve had the bag for a week and I haven’t mislaid my chapstick, lost my cellphone, or misplaced my bank card. All three of these are pretty much a weekly occurrence ’round these parts (ask Rob about the three-week loss of my iPod, because it fell out of my coat pocket in the car).

Anyway, I love it. I got a “discount” – well not really. You could buy the bag for $50, or buy $25 worth of Avon stuff and get the bag for $20. So I saved $5.

That’s the last time I’ll be ordering from them for awhile, but I am thoroughly enjoying my purse (plus there’s enough space inside to carry my lunch and a bottle of water).

Good morning, now.

Good morning, now.

At about 6:30 this morning Doozer came to the bottom of the stairs and barked. Which made me sad, because I was thoroughly enjoying all the sleeps. I opened the roller shades, saw that it was light out, then looked at the clock, when I realized the time and that I was about an hour late for the dogs’ morning walk.

So off we walked into the sunrise. Along the way we saw birds (“Let’s chase the birds! Dog Mom, let us chase the birds! Aw Dog Mom you’re no fun!”), a cat (“Let’s go meet that cat! Dog Mom, it’s our new friend! How could you keep us from our new friend?”) and a fox (“DOG.MOM.YOU.ARE.RIDICULOUS.WITH.THIS.LEASH.”).

Then we came home and I went back to bed. But the dogs! They did not accept that! Over the course of the next two hours I was consistently accosted by one dog or the other (for some reason they didn’t really bother with Rob’s side of the bed) or both at once. My favourite was when each fifteen-pound dog chose a boob and stood on it.

But it’s okay! Because then we all got up, did a bit of cleaning in the livingroom, and are feeling great about having a lazy weekend.

I don’t know about Rob but I feel like every weekend for the past month or whatever has been all busy with places to go or things to do and this weekend we finally just get to stay home and lay like broccoli.

(you get bonus points if you know where that’s from).

76 trombones led the big parade…

76 trombones led the big parade…

In two weeks I will be helping to chaperone about 250 jr high kids on a three-day, two-night band trip. Complete with hotel-staying, all-night-hallway-patrolling, and even a trip to Cirque du Soleil.

It’s going to be GLORIOUS.

One problem has been that a few of our school’s instruments are getting a little dilapidated. And since the school has to fundraise for almost all instruments, the director of the music department (he loves when we call him that – he’s the only guy at the whole school who has anything to do with music so basically he directs… himself?) likes to find the best possible deals. Sadly there is only one store on the Island that sells instruments and its prices reflect that monopoly. It used to take a whole raffle’s worth of fundraising just to buy one new drum!

I was discussing this with Rob the other week and he came up with a bright idea: Internet shopping! We looked around and found Woodwind & Brasswind. I liked that they have Free Shipping because any way to save money is great. But what I liked best?

p-bone

Yep, I’ve always been one for the fancy bling. I love the look of these Jiggs pBone plastic trombones… they come in red, blue, yellow, green, and a bunch of other colours. Of course it isn’t the looks, it’s the sound, right? And these are plastic, so I was doubtful. I showed the site to the music teacher today, though, and he was impressed. He says he’s heard these being played before and they sound just like the regular brass instruments. He also pointed me to a bunch of online reviews and most were top notch.

SO! I am kind of proud that I have possibly helped to save our school some money, and at the same time I am excited that next year at the band festival our trombonists might be rockin’ some jellybean coloured trombones!

Cuts like a knife…

Cuts like a knife…

… but it feels so right

Tonight Rob and I are going to fulfill 15-year-old me’s ultimate dream (well, one of them): we’re going to a Bryan Adams concert.

I don’t care if you feel it’s schlocky and whatever or whatever else, if you don’t at least know the first 15 words of Summer of ’69, your soul might be dead inside.

Or it might not be.

Sorry about no bloggings all week – I think only two people read this anyway, but to those two people: sorry. Not a huge amount of things have been happening, I’ve just been working and trying to finish the yearbook and being tired and feeling boring.

Both my dogs and my husband got haircuts today. They all look gorgeous and smell good, too.

Yep! That is all!

Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland

Last week, on Thursday, it was 23 degrees Celsius. That’s…73.4 Fahrenheit. We had a barbecue at my parents’ house. My nephew and I noticed some little pink plants breaking through in their backyard. It was so so great.

Today? oh, today we have a blizzard. Only 5-10 cm of snow predicted, but since the winds are at 90+km/hr, it’s causing low visibility (actually, pretty much zero visibility) on the roads. Which has resulted in a snow day for me.

That is kind of funny because we just got back from March Break, but good because I was a tired, tired lady yesterday afternoon when 2:00 came along and I wasn’t napping.

My plans for today? POSSIBLY going in to work to just spend some time getting work done. It’s a shutdown – I’m not supposed to be allowed to go in, but I’m a rebel that way. But I will only do that if this wind dies down later; right now I can’t see out the windows of this house.

So it’s Wednesday. The Wednesday of my March Break. And I am LOVING IT.

I feel as though my break didn’t actually start until Sunday (Saturday was spend driving people all over the place) but since it started, it has been great.

We’re not actually doing a heck of a lot – reading, napping, walking dogs – but it’s just good. The weather has been beautiful. I’ve been mainly wearing sweatpants.

Just good. So good. I needed this.

(Oh hi. For some reason I hit draft on this instead of publish. So it was written on Wednesday).
