So, today I have a curriculum meeting. It’s not that I don’t enjoy these, but… I’d just rather be doing my actual job. It always takes me forever to get stuff ready for a sub, because around here subs don’t have to have a degree – if they went to community college for one year and didn’t pass a class, they can still add themselves to the sub list – so I can’t always count on them to know what I’m talking about in my plans (not that ALL subs are like this – but I’ve had a couple do completely the wrong thing and I’ve had to re-teach everything). Luckily the person I called is finishing up her B.Ed so she knows what’s going on. Plus most of the day my classes are working on projects they’ve already started, or doing a test.
Oh! The test! I spent an hour after work yesterday making a test. I tried to save the test on my hard drive. Well, the hard drives at work must be tiny, because it was all like “Hey your hard drive’s full! You can’t save that here!” (I have literally 9 files on there. They’re not that big. One PowerPoint, three tests, a letter, and 4 question sheets). I finally got the bright idea to save it on Google Docs but seriously? Something needs to be done about the tech stuff there.
And now I’m starving and I have to leave in 20 minutes and I need a shower so off I go!

  1. You get a sub for curriculum meetings? All of our meetings are in the morning, afternoon, or during our planning period. We get about two half-days a year to plan with our content areas.

  2. I’m not sure how to explain it really – maybe it’s not properly termed a curriculum meeting. More like PD or something. I’m helping to make up a new grade 7 social studies curriculum for the province so we get 3 days per year. Since we have to drive for an hour and a bit to get to the meetings we wouldn’t be able to do it in the morning or whatever.
