Crafty (a little)

Crafty (a little)

I made that shirt right there. Actually I made two exactly like that: one for each of my brother’s sons. In the photo, on the right is my brother. On the left is the Cuban Assassin. And now I will tell you the tale behind why I made the t-shirts, and why I think my brother is going to laugh his ass off when he sees his kids wearing them (we’re having Father’s Day stuff at my parents’ tomorrow – I plan on sneaking the boys away from their parents and putting the shirts on them).

When we were younger, we would go to visit my grandparents. One of my grandpa’s favourite things was to take my dad, my brother, and any other male relatives in the vicinity to watch Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling, a wrestling promotion which seemed to constantly be touring the Maritimes.
One of my brother’s favourite memories is when he was five years old, yelling something like “You stink, skinhead!” at Killer Karl Krupp and having Krupp lunge at him all crazy-like.

A few weeks ago, Grand Prix was in a town about an hour away from here. My brother got all excited when he found out, and just went, all by himself. He met the Cuban Assassin (or at least, one of the Cuban Assassins… apparently the dude is like Santa Claus. There’s the Original Cuban Assassin, and then there are a bunch of his helpers). He got this photo taken with him. Last night, he took my husband to another Grand Prix show and they apparently had the time of their lives (plans are being made to go to the next show that’s here, which is sometime in August). My brother got his photo signed. The owner of the company asked him, for the second time, whether he’d consider maybe becoming a wrestler. Considering the fact that he has a wife and two kids, he politely declined but don’t go thinking that he wasn’t excited about that.

Apparently on the way home from the matches last night, my brother and Rob were joking around about how next time GPW’s in town, they were going to have t-shirts made up with pics of the wrestlers, and big signs that say “Cuban Assassin is my Daddy” and “Viva la Cuba” and all kinds of other foolishness. Lord I wish you all could meet my brother. He is hilariously funny and I’m not doing justice to their jokes in this blog post.

Another thing my brother likes: VW Beetles (the original ones, not the new kind). Growing up he would watch the Herbie movies whenever he had a chance and of course, now his kids love it too. So, since there were 3 tshirts in the pack I bought (3 little kids’ shirts, $4.50… not a bad price) I made this, as well:
