… so I was feeling a bit sad after my last post… until I saw this, and it cheered me right up.

want some cheese with that whine?
by Louise
Monday and today:
5:50 am. – wake up and finish loading my report cards onto the computer, because all weekend when I was trying to do it either the site wasn’t responding or it was *so slow* and I have 165 students and it was making me crazy.
7:00 am – shower
7:30 am – get back in bed for 10 minutes of snuggling with a sleepy Rob.
7:45 am – leave for work.
8 am- 3 pm – work.
3 pm – 3:30 pm – work (sans students)
3:30 pm – leave for home.
3:45 pm – arrive home. Immediately drive Rob to work because he is scheduled to work at 4.
4 pm – 9 pm – watch “Music and Lyrics” (again! I can watch it over and over, and I don’t care how sappy and girly you might find it. It’s got Hugh grant wiggling and singing, and Drew Barrymore, who I love) while correcting tests and attempting to eat my meal for the day which was disgusting pre-packaged ginger beef.
9 pm – Bedtime
1 am – Rob gets home, comes in and kisses me. I tell him I love him (or at least, I *think* I told him I loved him. Although it was possibly in Sleep Language so it probably came out as “Socks are in the moustache!”). He goes downstairs to unwind.
3 am- Rob comes to bed.
Snuggling ensues.
6 am- alarm rings. Snooze alarm. Continue hitting Snooze until 6:45. Wake up. Shower. Stare at wall. Get dressed. Fix hair. Snuggle with Rob for 10 minutes.
7:45 – leave for work.
8 am – 3 pm – work.
3 pm – 4 pm- work (sans kids)
4:15 pm – Arrive home. Eat supper Rob has lovingly prepared (YES at 4:15… I haven’t eaten all day!).
4:45 – drive Rob to work.
(and then tonight I have watched The Hurricane, which is another movie that I love and made me cry at the end)
So. In the past 48 hours, Rob and I have spent 45 waking minutes together. An hour, if I stretch that to include times when I hug him in the mornings and he’s still asleep but able to talk to me.
This is our schedule. It works, financially, because at his work they have been sending the ‘day’ people home early but they never send the night people home early and that means that he gets all his hours in and doesn’t come up short on his paycheque. I realize that it’s a necessity and I wouldn’t actually want him to switch to days, because if he were working days he would end up like some of his coworkers– get to work at 9, only to be sent home at 10:30.
I sound like I’m whining. And I am, a little, because I miss him. Although I must say that Night Snuggles are awesome (even though I’m pretty sure I drooled all over his arm last night). And it’s way better than when I was living in Halifax and he was living in Newfoundland. And!!! there’s a long weekend coming up. So we will spend time then just kind of staring at each other.

Tales out of school
by Louise
Frustrating:
In the grade 7 classes that I teach, we are learning about the aboriginal peoples of Canada. While going through some photos of artefacts found at an archaeological dig, I mentioned the fact that when they hunted, when they killed an animal, they used the entire animal. Skins for clothing, meat for eating, sinew and bone for making tools and decorative pieces– everything.
Apparently, that means that “the aboriginal people are GROSS“!
I try to point out to them how it’s actually a good thing– that although our society is very much belonging- and status-centred, we would do well to learn to be less wasteful and more reverent of the Earth. And I get a response of “Yeah, but… they killed things and then wore them! They wore dead animals!!! And used their BONES FOR SPOONS!”
Later, during lunch hour, I see the student who so eloquently pointed out the grossness, leaving for lunch at the nearby McDonald’s.
Hilariously funny (to me):In homeroom:
(all this said totally without guile or sarcasm)
“Hi Madame… so apparently I was watching too much TV last night”.
“Last night specifically? Or just in general?”
“Just last night. My mom was all ‘You’re watching too much TV! Get out of your room!’”
“Oh, yeah. So what did you do?”
“I went outside and exercised for, like, an hour. I’ve got a serious six-pack now… no, maybe an eight-pack”.
Oh, the tweens. They make me smile. I love my job.

I
love
this
song.
I don’t know why! I can almost not handle it! I have played the video over and over and over again and maybe it’s not the best song in the world but I love it.

Eh.
November 4, 2007 by Louise
Well, that turned into a whole lotta nothin’.
The huge wind storm that was going to blow our island right out of the water? That had people scurrying about buying flashlights and extra toilet paper and batteries for their makeup mirrors and cans of beans? It came, it saw, it didn’t do much conquering.
Granted, there are quite a few people (3000 at last count) without power, so maybe they can use those batteries. But other than that, it wasn’t as horrible as everyone was making it out to be.I know, I know. Better safe than sorry. But I was hoping for at LEAST a day off work out of this, with all the hype! C’mon!
In other news grades are due tomorrow morning. I’ve been correcting tests and late assignments all day yesterday and today (they ALWAYS have to hand stuff in late, eh?). I’m finally finished correcting, and now it’s time to put grades into the computer, only it’s a whole new system from what I’m used to and I can’t figure it out. A coworker gave me her phone number in case I had any questions (boy do I!) and she is going to be wondering why I have left 98000 messages on her machine by the time she gets home. So, yeah. I gotta go.

IM’s
by Louise
You know Rob and I are nerds.
And, I’ve mentioned it before, so it’s no surprise that sometimes I’ll be in the bedroom on the laptop and he’ll be downstairs with the desktop and now and then we will send each other little instant messages of looooooooooove.
There, I’ve set the scene.Category General | Tags: | 4 Comments

A post I cut short because of the stupid non-hurricane which, am I talking about the non-hurricane enough? Because I could talk about it more, if you asked me to.
by Louise
Have you noticed that I’m posting every three minutes here? You have? Well that’s great. It’s because when I’m nervous (and I am a little nervous) I can’t sleep. Everyone around here is making this storm out to be the End of the World, and even though I don’t really think it *is*, well, shared energy and all. Plus the fact that I have guzzled down nearly a litre of co’cola tonight so my paranoia is setting in.
We are thinking about getting a new TV. The one we have is making me crazy because there’s one side of the screen that has like, a huge spot where everything is green. I don’t really understand all the technicalities — when Rob moved in with me I had a 13-inch little thing and was fine with it. Hey, it wasn’t black and white! He was having none of that and soon we were all set up with a 27-inch virtual flat screen with fiber optic cables and possibly lasers. The one we’re thinking of getting has HD (what is HD? Hole Digging? Happy Days? Heroic Dogs? Oh, I hope it’s Heroic Dogs. I love dogs!) and is skinny and, apparently, we could hang it on the wall if we wanted. But I would never want to because with our luck it would all come crashing down. We would get it on credit, and we would have to pay $8 a week for a year. Which comes to … wait. $416? That doesn’t sound right. I will have to get back to you.
OMG THERE IS LIGHTNING OUTSIDE IT IS VALHALLA!

Very wise words
November 3, 2007 by Louise
… from Kristin:
A blog is a hundredth of a person. Tidbits recorded in a personal blog, no matter how prolific, are carefully chosen tidbits that may or may not be representations of a whole self. Entire stories are rarely — if ever — given. To come in to a blog and make random declarations of judgment is kind of like watching five minutes of a movie and then declaring oneself an expert of All Things Cinematical and Ryan Gosling is obviously an asshole who abuses puppies and smokes too much hashish, he had red eyes in the film, didn’t he? It’s like barging drunk and uninvited into a dinner party, red-rimmed and slurry, exclaiming beligerently that the mushroom puffs are shite and the host’s views on politics are goddamned stupid, before scouring the medicine cabinet, pocketing dessert, and ambling arrogantly away.

Road Rage!
by Louise
We went grocery shopping today, and as we drove home, we were listening to one of the local rock stations, which is something that we hardly ever do. Generally the radio is set to the CBC.
Anyway. As luck would have it, a song came on that we both knew and, being teens of the 90s, could sing along with perfectly. I even kind of took a detour so that we could hear the entire song. When it was over, we kind of giggled that we’d been emoting and during our singing, and at how we’d performed the harmony parts and everything. Then the announcer came on. “That was a song that a lot of people are familiar with, but nobody knows the name of the song or who sings it.
This is when we both got really kind of flabbergasted, because seriously? THIS SONG? EVERYONE KNOWS THIS SONG!
Okay, maybe not everyone, but I hate it when radio announcers are douchenozzles. There I said it.
(here’s the song, by the way): (more…)

I have been tagged!
by Louise
… by Danielle! (link in sidebar– sorry, I’m lazy).
1. If you could have the last hour prior to reading this tag again, what would you do differently?
The “smart” answer would be something along the lines of “do more getting ready for the strom that’s coming” or “work more on my grades because they’re due Monday morning” but really? Eh. Rob and I were snuggling on the sofa and I was knitting and it was nice so I would not change anything. Take that!
2.You can go back in time for exactly one hour, where and at what time in history would you go?
Only an hour? Meh! I guess I’d go back to Renaissance times with the fancy dresses and everything. Except I don’t know that I’d enjoy the B.O., plus I’d probably end up being a servant or something which probably wasn’t all that much fun.3.You have one hour to make a handmade item, what would you make?
Probably a huge mess! I don’t craft well under pressure!
(I could knit something tiny, or do a little drawing, or um… I don’t know what else. Sew something to something else).4. If you cold lose one bad habit, what would it be?
Procrastination!5.In less than sixty words, describe your perfect Sunday.
Lazing about, taking a series of naps, watching movies with my leem.6. List sixty things you could do with that extra hour (after time change)
SIXTY?! Dude, I’m not sure I could do sixty things in a day, let alone in an hour!
When the time changes, I’ll probably take the hour to sleep– nothing exciting.I will not tag anyone– but if you want, do this meme, and let me know you did it! I’d like to see your answers.
