When I was in university, for the last 2 years, I didn’t have a TV, so I got out of the ‘habit’ of watching. Then, for many years, I just… didn’t watch. Maybe an hour a week, if that. Sure I’d rent movies and such but that was that. But then… TV started getting better. Not that The Nanny wasn’t a great chapter of television history… but Veronica Mars? Deadwood? Rome Jekyll? All just that much better.
Thing is, I still don’t watch TV when the shows are on. I don’t like commercials. We are lucky enough to have a PVR, so anything I want to watch, I can watch without commercials. I also have a husband who can download TV shows (I’m not sure about how legal that is so umm… shhhhhhhhh!). Thus this weekend has been dedicated to the viewing of 30 Rock. I’m a little late to the party, but oh my God is it good. And funny. I’ve spent the weekend watching the entire first season, and knitting. Knitting, because I am challenging myself to finish a scarf (that I started yesterday) by tonight. That’s not happening, because I keep stopping to laugh.
Also, speaking of The Nanny and TV in general? Go read this post at Rob’s blog. Because I am still. Seriously. Skeeved.
I, hardly ever, watch live TV anymore. I either tape it all or wait 15-20 minutes into th program so I can skip the commercials (I love my mythtv!).
I was never a big fan of The Nanny, in fact, I might have seen 3 episodes (at most) so I have no frame of reference for Rob’s blog entry.
30 Rock is my favorite, just wait until you get to season 2. So far its crazy genius. I thought it started kind of slow in season 1 but once it hit its stride it became the funniest thing ever! A little something to tease you about season 2: A Tracy Jordan novelty hit record called “Werewolf Bat Mitzvah.” Ohhh yeah….
