And where’s my flying car?!

May 19, 2007 by Louise

I love my job.
I love my students.
They all need to get themselves some dang pencils, though.

On Thursday I basically loaned (lent? what is the word?) out every single pen, pencil, marker, coloured pencil, piece of chalk every single writing instrument I own to these kids because I swear, they all forgot their pencils in their lockers. I always make them give me something of their own in exchange (sometimes a shoe, sometimes NOT a shoe, depending on their level of, uhm, non-stinkiness…), so that most of the time I get my things back at the end of class (although I can’t forget the time one guy actually left my classroom with only one shoe on, and actually made it to his next class before he noticed). I also make sure to stock up on plenty of cheap pens and pencils at the beginning of every year; I usually make it from September to probably mid-November before having to stock up again. Little thieves.

I realize I’m enabling them by letting them use my things, but I get in trouble if I send them down to their lockers to get pencils, so I’ve gotta do something, right? Hopefully in the future schoolchildren will come with like, pen-hands. And better hygiene.
