My parents had a dog, Smokey, for about 10 years. Actually she was my brother’s dog, but when he moved out, she stayed behind, because his new wife was afraid of big dogs (she was a german shepherd/collie cross– though she looked like a german shepherd and not at all like a collie). Anyway. My parents had her. She was their dog. Only a few weeks ago, they noticed that she seemed to be in a great deal of pain with her walking and she was throwing up all the time. They took her to the vet who told them that basically, she was pretty old, and was going to die, might as well get it done sooner rather than later.
My mother has pretended to hate that dog for ten years but this was a huge blow to her. My dad sometimes works nights so Smokey was her company. Plus, she was already sad after our other dog died (okay so it was 4 years ago, but still. We’d had her for sixteen years! And she was our baby!) and now basically was all “No more pets! Ever! They just break your heart!”
Of course my Dad can’t leave well enough alone. He went out one day and came home with Simon:
Simon’s a year old. Someone was looking for a home for him or they were going to “get rid of” him because they didn’t have enough room for him in their home.
Mom is the happiest person ever now. She and Simon hang out all the time. He just wants to cuddle her. She sits down, he’s on her lap. She stands up, he follows her around. I’m just waiting for her to start making him outfits and calling him her fourth child.

I remember when Mike Myers grabbed that song. I was frustrated because it was wrong, all wrong!!!
Well you know my name is Simon, and the things I draw come true, so let me take you take you take you over the wall with me.
Ahhh, childhood memories… I wonder if they ever do reruns of simon and his drawings that come to life…
in a fit of obsessiveness I thought I might look up what the lyrics *actually were*, instead of trying to remember from when I was a little kid.
Apparently they are:
“Well you know my name is Simon,
and the things I draw come true,
Oh pictures take me, take me over,
Climb the ladder with you.”
A SNL reference I actually get… I loved Simon and his drawrings.
My mom acted the same way about my cat (that I had for 17 years) she pretended like she didn’t like him but, in the end, she was just as devastated when I had to have him put down.
I don’t know about all this SNL stuff, but I have a great weakness for male Siamese cats, and Simon is a hunk!
