I am feeling better. Not 100% better; actually if it weren’t for the fact that I’m afraid of my boss I probably wouldn’t be in today, either, because the Things Of Which I Spoke last post are still happening, just at a less frequent rate.
Have I mentioned lately how much I want a dog? Probably not. But I should. Because I want a dog. I love dogs. I neeeeed a dog. I had a dog, for sixteen years, but then she died. She was the best dog ever. We named her after an Ewok because well, I was 10 when we got her and I liked those danged Ewoks. Anyway. Rob is not a dog person. His parents had one, but he wasn’t a fan of ol’ Spike’s, I don’t think (maybe he was a secret fan). Rob is a cat person. I keep feeling very guilty that due to my allergies we can’t have a cat. Like, maybe I should get him a cat, and then take a lot of Benadryl. But he says no to that, too.
So back to dogs. I want a schnauzer. I love schnauzers. I have met schnauzers and I have loved them. And luckily schnauzers are one of the breeds I’m not allergic to (terriers, poodles, schnauzers, wheatens, and one other kind that I can remember being in contact with and not dying of hives and sneezing). We will more than likely be waiting this the Summer before puppy shopping, because it would be nice to actually be at home with a new dog for a couple of months.
Yep. That’s all I had to say today. Anyone have any good dog recommendations? Anyone?
I’ve never been around a schnauzer (who knew it was spelled that way?) but poodles are kind of mean – at least that’s been my experience. Terriers are, I think, a bit more destructive as puppies (they play hard) than some other breeds but they are so damn cute it makes up for it.
Oh – forgot to say… I’m glad you are feeling better.
My dog was a terrier/poodle mongrel. She got the best of both breeds, I think. Although she could be kinda grumpy sometimes but I liked that about her because it reminded me of me.
I have had several schnauzers and will tell you that they are wonderful dogs! I have a beautiful boy schnauzer now, and he may be the sweetest and most well-behaved dog ever. You need to read up on them before you get one. Like all breeds, they can have their own “issues” with health, etc. My dog has developed diabetes – a real shock, because he always ate a regimented diet without a lot of “junk” (human) food. I have to give him insulin shots twice a day, and it is an expensive proposition. None of my other dogs ever had this problem. Schnauzers can also be prone to some skin diseases.., though again, only one of my dogs ever had that. They do require grooming. They don’t shed, which is probably one reason your allergies aren’t bothered.
I also had a poodle one time… not a tiny one, she was around 15 pounds. She was a delight! Not nervous like most poodles. She thought she was Big Bird from Sesame Street. Just as laid back and goofy and sweet! Loved children! Poodles are hypo-allergenic.
There are ways to judge temperament in dogs when you go view puppies, if you know how to look. I always like to lay them on their backs in the palm of my hand and see how they react. If they lay there, relaxed, that shows me a good, laid back temperament. The ones that squirm and kick usually have a more nervous or agitated temperament. It all depends on what you want in your pup!
In my was of thinking, you can’t go wrong with any little dog you choose. All of them, mixed breeds included, are full of love and want so badly to please you and to beloved in return.
Good luck!
