I have a mission for you!

August 14, 2006 by Louise

Do you choose to accept it?

It requires knowledge and forethought…

Okay no, not really. But yeah. We’re making up our wedding music list and we need songs. Like, yesterday. Last minute Louise, that’s me.

So I was thinking– if you’re reading this, why not think of five or ten songs that you like for dancing? Not necessarily old shmaltzy sappy songs (although those are great too) but whatever, you know? I want people to have fun.

(note to Rob: NO RAMMSTEINS!!!!)

R.E.M. Shiny Happy People comes to mind, mainly because I listened to that CD yesterday.

Ooooh I love challenges like these!

    My picks:

    1. The Ronnettes – Then He Kissed Me
    2. The Platters – This Magic Moment
    3. Empire Records Soundtrack – Money (That’s What I Want)
    4. Leon Redbone – Come and Get Your Love
    5. The Cars – Just What I Needed
    6. Harry Nilsson – Somewhere Over the Rainbow
    7. Van Morrison – Tupelo Honey
    8. Huey Lewis & Gwyneth Paltrow – Cruising Together
    9. Gloria Estefan – Rhythm Is Gonna Get You
    10. Gloria Estefan – Conga

I’d like to say I was being ironic including the Gloria Estefan… but I can’t help but tap my feet and wiggle when I hear those songs :)

Kool and the Gang – Celebration

Oooh this is a fun one!

My absolute favorite slow song: “Into the Mystic” – VanMorrison. Nate has no choice, that WILL be our first dance.

We’ve also decided there are just certain songs we’ve heard at every wedding that must therefore be played at our reception:

    1. Old Time Rock and Roll – Bob Seger
    2. Electric Slide (my fav dance number)
    3. YMCA (an obvious choice)
    4. Shout (for the older generation)
    5. The Chicken Dance (oh yeah, hate it all you will, it’s a classic)
    6. Locomotion
    7. Louie, Louie
    8. Funkytown
    9. Wonderful Tonight (again, I’m sappy hehe)
    10. Suspicious Minds – Elvis (I LOVE Elvis)

Ok, so those are some “older” songs. I guess it’s important to me that everyone just have a good time. I’m happy listening to contemporary or golden oldies. The older generation is sometimes alienated by the really modern stuff so I think playing some of the old familiar songs makes everyone happy :)

Lionel Ritchie (if you can stand it): Dancing on the Ceiling.

    Good dance tune.

  6. Meg says:

I have absolutely no music in my brain, but I love HappyShinyPeople…anything R.E.M, Talking Heads, BNL. We paid out the nose for a dance band, and the swing songs went over surprisingly well. In the end, though, I think TheDancers will dance…and the NonDancers wont. Ask your guests to bring music THEY like!

  7. Meg says:

OK, that wasnt what you asked for. here is a very varied LIST:
Preacher’s son (Pulp Fiction), I think I love you (David Cassidy), A girl Like You (Edwin Collins), AM Radio (Everclear), Baby Love (Joan Collins), Kate (BenFoldsFive), Better than Chocolate (Sarah McLauchlin), Bring the Funk (Ben Harper), Brown Eyes Girl (VanMorrison), Dancing in the Dark (Springsteen),DisseAlguem/AllofMe (Laura Fygi), Dream a little dream (Mamas and the Papas), There must be an angel (Eurythmics)…and I’d dance to most things from Smashmouth, BNL, Talking Heads, REM, much of U2….how about more **FUNK**? Even a beatless fool like me can dance to that!
