  1. So here’s the dealio with the jobby thing

    June 4, 2006 by Louise

Yeah, just four months ago I was all crying and like “I can never teach again I have to quit and go work at some job where you never ever have any human contact because I suck and am a horrible person and I will traumatize the kids I am awful waaaaaaaaaa!”. I still feel like that, some days, but wow, what a marvel pharmaceuticals can be, eh? I have really been enjoying my job these past few months, even though at times my students can be jerks– then again, so can I, so whatever.
The only thing is that this job, seeing as I only got it halfway through the year, was not a permanent job. February 3rd- June 30th and not a second more. Well, I could re-apply for it, if no one else with more seniority than me wanted it, but as it turns out, someone who’s been teaching for five years wanted it (yes, I’ve been teaching for seven years, but five of those were in Nova Scotia and don’t count here) so I was without employment.
So, I went looking around on the school board website to see if there were any jobs I was qualified to apply for. There were several but really? Some of them weren’t great. Well, there was one that would have been awesome, because it’s about three minutes away from my house, at a school I really love, but it was teaching first grade. I couldn’t handle that. The kids would finish the year with post traumatic stress of some kind, I’m sure, knowing less when they left than when they got there. I love little kids, don’t get me wrong. This is why I wouldn’t subject them to me for ten months. The rest of the jobs were kind of… well there were some that involved teaching French, History, and… industrial arts. Or weird combinations like that. So I applied for the one job I felt like I could do. Then I went to the interview. And I got the job. I’m excited.

I’ll be teaching junior high (something I haven’t done in years, and know that it will be tough, because I mean, 13 year old boys are obnoxious and the girls? not much better). French immersion history and language arts– which, I specialised in teaching french immersion for my B.Ed, and during my BA my major was french, my minors were english and history. So that’s good.

The only caveat for me is that it’s about an hour’s drive away from my home. This year that was okay, because I was carpooling with three other people, so only ended up driving three times in a two-week period. Next year, I don’t think there’s anyone at that school who comes from around here, so I’ll be spending plenty of bucks on gas, I can tell you.

    But I’m happy! Yay!

  3. Oh Holy Lord

I have a job interview this afternoon. THIS. AFTERNOON. I am feeling very unprepared.
Not that there’s much I can do to prepare. One is never ready to say nice things about oneself.

Well, some people might be. Not I.
