This is bull f’in crap!

October 20, 2005 by Louise

One thing that I hate about myself is that when I get really angry, I start to cry. I look like a fool when it happens, and usually I can hold it in until I’m not around people — but eventually the floodgates open and I’m bawling.
At the moment I’m about half an inch from crying. Why, you might ask?
Okay, as you may know, I haven’t worked in like, a year because I was sick and everything. So I’ve been really excited about how I’m easing back into the working world (with two jobs!) because I finally feel like I’m contributing to our little household again. Not that I haven’t been contributing– just that now, it’s monetarily, which is just as important as my opinions about whether or not the whole secret behind Lost is that it’s Stefano DiMera’s secret island and soon John Black is going to come rescue them all.
Well, guess what? Today is payday for one of the jobs. Remember how a couple of weeks ago, the first payday, there had been some kind of mixup so I didn’t get paid, but they told me that this week I’d get 4 weeks worth of cheques?
Yeah, didn’t happen. Just checked the bank account and there’s nothing there. I haven’t called yet because I don’t want to seem like a pain in the ass, and also because I’m still so upset that I don’t want to cry on the phone with the lady. I don’t even know if I *should* call. If I weren’t so upset, this would probably be funny. Right?
Right?

No, it’s not funny at all. You’ve worked for that money and it’s owed you.

How would the a-holes in charge of sending the checks like to not get paid for 4 weeks?

CALL THEM! I worked in this job for more than a month before they paid me – I finally said “I am not working one more day until you pay me.” I got money the next day. You are OWED this money, it isn’t right that they keep you dangling. If you owed them money you can bet they would hound you…

Call them. Probably some typo type mistake somewhere, and they don’t even know it. They just go blindly along assuming everything was handled properly. They won’t know there’s a problem unless you bring it to their attention.

Just try to remain calm, remember everyone makes mistakes. Be pleasant, they will be happier to help you than if you yell at them. Maybe make a joke, like if you don’t get paid soon you won’t be able to eat AGAIN and you won’t show up for work Monday because you will have starved to death.

    Or something.

I totally get the crying thing…I cry when I’m ultra happy, sad, angry…and my mother’s always saying, “Why are you crying again??” Grrr… As if I wouldn’t turn off the waterworks if I could!

I think you are totally justified in asking where your paychecks are and demanding that something be done soon. And when I say soon, I mean, they need to have your money to you NOW. Working a month without compensation is just not right. Everyone has the same basic needs and if they aren’t paying you, your needs aren’t being fulfilled. Who has motivation to continue at something when they aren’t being appreciated? You deserve to be respected, girl! Ask for what you need and have earned! :)

Man, I used to so addicted to freakin’ Days. Haven’t watched it in yeeeears now =]
(Nice theory, btw. I like it!)

Nope, don’t think it’s funny that you didn’t get paid, and you are 100% right to feel upset here. It’s good advice to give them a call, and you know what? If you’re a little bit teary while you’re talking to them, so be it.

    Good luck with this, L.
