  1. What a couple of days!

    July 30, 2005 by Louise

My mother’s surgery went well (in fact, she was sent home yesterday, she’s at this very moment sitting on the big chair in the livingroom like the Queen of the House ordering me to get upstairs and make lunch). As soon as she got out, we got a call from my grandma in Cape Breton saying that my aunt (my dad’s little sister) had been rushed to have emergency surgery. She’s fine too, now– it was some kind of intestinal blockage that they fixed up. And of course, as these things always come in threes, last night my sister went in to the ER thinking she was dying but it turns out she just had a UTI or something.
    So that is that.

I feel like my blog is becoming completely boring– I swear it’s not that PEI is boring it’s just that living at my parents’ is. I love them, but they’re not exactly Party People, y’know?

  2. Good vibes needed por favor

    July 28, 2005 by Louise

My mom is headed into surgery as we speak — total surprise. Seems her gallbladder (which she’s never had any trouble with before) is doing a bit of a tapdance inside her and the doctors said better out than in. So I’m headed in to the hospital right now, after making sure my Dad takes his pills and lays down for a nap (hey, when did I become the parent? ;) ).

Any good vibes y’all have to spare would be appreciated.

Whew. Okay. We have our own computer hooked up to our own Internet now, so I feel better about using it. I won’t tell the super-long and retarded story of the move; I will just say that U-Haul LIES about their small truck being able to move the contents of a one-bedroom apartment. We had to leave a LOT of our stuff behind. And yes, we packed properly, AND had the car packed up.
Then again, I’m a total packrat, so maybe they meant it would fit the contents of a 1br apartment occupied by sane people.
    They should have specified, though.

We have all our stuff set up. Most of our things are here at my parents’; a few boxes (and Emilio and Judd) are at my sister’s house but we’ll be going to pick them up very soon. Not Judd and Emilio, though. My father, his meds make him cranky, and he doesn’t want them here. My niece is Being Responsible For Them until we get our own place.

I feel like I have a tonne of things to talk about, but at the moment, I’m zonked and just want to sleep. Well, sleep and eat things other than boiled chicken and something I think might have been beans. Or maybe wheat. It was beige.

And? Go look here for more of Wayne’s Hilarious Hijinks.
    Rob cracks me up.

    Well, we’re here.
    And we’re alive.
    And tired.
Rob has said more, because he doesn’t sleep.
Go ahead and read it. Please remember that he was super-grumpy when he wrote about my folks being the spawn of Satan.

Are you tired of the packing/moving stuff yet? Because we are.

    Look at the timestamp.
    It’s 2:30 am.
    Still. Packing.

Actually here’s the deal: It’s been so so hot the past couple of days, and our apartment gets absolutely no air (even though we have both windows and the front door open and a fan blowing but the fan is a wuss and only works if you’re standing directly in front of it). Therefore we’ve been like, doing really easy stuff during the day, then sleeping for a few hours, and doing the “big stuff” packing between midnight and five a.m., when it’s a tiny bit cooler.

Tonight though? Feh. Right now it’s 22 degrees but with 9 zillion per cent humidity which equals sweaty sweaty beans. I’ve invented a new sport:

Naked Nocturnal Packing and Whining And Procrastinating From The Packing By Blogging.

    It’s a triathalon.

  6. Something’s afoot!

    July 20, 2005 by Louise

    SO MUCH MOVING.

1- We’re moving. Tomorrow. But you knew that though so I won’t go on (aside from oh sweet crispy jesus we sure did pick great days for it; the humidity’s like 9000% and it’s hot and blaaaaaaaaaah)

2- Rob has gotten his own domain — in his words “Not because I don’t want to be associated with the super awesomeness that is cowdog, but because it was such a good deal that I couldn’t pass it up”. I went to look at it today and he was busy in the night when I was sleeping (yes, he packed, too, but everyone deserves a break). I personally think this is the most hilarious thing I’ve ever seen. It may just be because I know his dad and everything, but seriously. It’s funny. I mean it. Go look now.

3- Okay I don’t have anything else to say about people moving around or stuff moving around or whatever. But I do have other news.

4- The Best News In The World (for me, anyway) is that my brother’s second child was born yesterday, July 19th, at 6:23 pm. It’s another boy. His name is Dawson Gerard and I’m an aunt for the fifth time. In case anyone’s wondering, he’s not named after Dawson’s Creek or anything like that (if he had been I’d have preferred Pacey). It’s just that the name Dawson means “son of [my brother's name]” and they liked that. I’m kind of glad they had a boy because I really, reallyreally didn’t like the name they had picked out for him if he had turned out to be a girl. So! I’ll have one more reason to be all excited about moving.
My brother and his wife are amazing parents. I mean, their (almost) two-year-old is so good. And not good in the way that he’s scared of his parents so he’s all downtrodden or anything; he’s a regular, exuberent kid who likes to run around making screeching noises and waving his arms in the air, and all the other normal little-kid stuff. But he also knows that when Mom or Dad say “that’s dangerous”, they mean it, and he stops. They spend time with him and play games with him — they don’t just set him down in front of the TV and walk away (well they probably do sometimes, just not for 12 hours a day). Plus. Plus! As a teacher I enjoy this part, by the way: he knows his colours. It might not seem like a big deal but I mean there are kids starting grade one who don’t know the difference between blue and orange. Not because they’re colourblind or anything, but because there really are a lot of parents who figure that anything having to do with teaching your kids should only take place in school. Okay. Enough rambling on. I’m happy, Rob’s happy, my brother and sister in law are happy, their older son is happy (well, aside from not understanding why Mummy’s not at home yet). It’s all good.

5- I guess I do have something else to say about moving. Instead of towing our car behind the u-haul, my sister is coming over on the shuttle and driving our car back. Saves money, methinks. And I was super nervous about the towing part because I have never towed anything before (although I’m really excited about driving the big truck. Yeah that’ll probably get old after 20 minutes). Plus my sister is Super Organized and Able To Help With The Packing. I, as you may know, am Not Super Organized. My ADD has kicked into overdrive (it’s times like these I wish for a fistful of ritalin). Basically I need someone to tell me where to start, and give me instructions as to what to do, and then… hmm. do it for me? heh, yeah, that would be nice. No. We’re muddling through, we’re muddling through. We’ll be packing up until the very last minute but it shall be done (if you’re saying “Then why are you on the computer right now you addict” I say this to you: BECAUSE I AM SWEATY AND DUST-STREAKED AND MY HANDS HAVE TAPE GOO ON THEM AND I NEED A BREAK THAT’S WHY SO YOU CAN GO AHEAD AND SUCK IT).

Although one thing that I don’t like is that last night we went out for probably half an hour to buy garbage bags (this is a hell of a way to do a Clean Sweep, let me tell you — yay freecycle! except some of the people haven’t showed up to get their stuff yet and if they don’t soon I’m giving it to the second in line people and then the first people will be sad) and each of us thought the other had the cellphone, and neither of us did and as a result of this whole rigmarole we missed our friends coming over to say goodbye to us and I don’t like that not one bit! Hopefully we’ll see them before they go. That’s the one thing I hate about our Giant Leap — I feel like we’re slinking off into the night without saying goodbye to anyone and we really don’t mean to it’s just that we need to go, now, and have so very little time and so much to do and … sigh. I suck, I know.

And with that I’m getting back to the So Much To Do. Even though I’m still sweaty and bleh.

  7. Mailbag

    July 19, 2005 by Louise

Holy cow, you guys. Oh, holy lord.
It’s very hot. No one is helping us pack (then again, Rob just went for a nap since he was up ALL NIGHT and I’m not packing either, I’m blogging! Because it’s weird and humid and I keep getting sweaty and I hate the sweaty!) and it’s taking forever.
We have freecycle people coming to pick up this desk that Evil Ex Roommate left, our kitchen table, an old printer, and a water cooler. Hopefully they’ll show up soon because it’s all just sitting here all crazily in my way.

I wanted to blog, though, about some stuff that happened with the mail lately.

First of all, I got part of my wedding ensemble. Rob’s allowed to see, because, well, I’ve already showed him in real life. It’s the headpiece for … well, my head. I have a pic here but it’s not a great one– suffice it to say, in real life, it is GORGEOUS and I am totally in love with it.

That’s a moonstone in the middle there.

Secondly my SECRET PAL ROCKS MY SOCKS!

She (I’m assuming my SP is a she, who knows, could be a he) sent me a package full of the most awesome stuff ever. Some gorgeous smelling beauty supplies, some chocolates (ooooooooo the chocolates; they were gone within seconds of the package being opened, let me tell you)plus some yarn that is going to be just awesome to work with once I figure out what to make with it (and then unpack it). I don’t have a picture because it’s already packed but it’s some frizzedy yarn and some non-frizzedy yarn.
Oh wait a minute– Okay It was packed but the box wasn’t taped so I’ll take a picture.

Okay I took a picture but WHERE IS THE USB CORD?

Found it, found it, don’t worry. So here you go:

(suggestions welcome on what to make)

and THANK YOU TO MY SECRET PAL. You don’t use your powers for good– you use them for awesome.

Well, two of you were wondering, so I guess I’ll give it up:

  9. Gulp.

    by Louise

Rob and I have just finally made a Huge Decision which is going to affect our lives in many ways. I’m not talking about it on here though until we finalize everything; don’t want to jinx anything and all.
    Just wanted to tease ;)

  10. Dude, if you’re gonna spew, spew into this.

    July 17, 2005 by Louise

Oh, yes, my last post was a tad freaky-outy. Whatever. Later that night I ended up Praying to the Porcelain Gods for awhile, which explains everything — I get very grouchy when I’m sick. Grouchy and whiney, but more grouchy. Then I slept for ten hours. Then I woke up for two or three hours. Then I slept for another fifteen hours. I’m feeling much better now.
