it’s somebody’s birthday I wonder who

June 20, 2005 by Louise

Saturday is my birthday. One friend keeps asking me what we’re doing… no one else has really mentioned it. My thing is this: I’d love to have a party. LOVE TO. I like parties. I like being celebrated (yes, self-centered, I know, but hey I’m telling the truth). I like getting presents (even though I’m not ALL ABOUT presents, admit it, it’s nice when people give you things unless it’s chlamydia). But at the same time, I have this immense fear– what if I threw a party, and no one showed up?
So. Go out to dinner? Okay… but isn’t that a little boring? I know I’ll be 29 and that is a Grown Up Age, but I don’t want to do Grown Up things yet. But what other things can we do? Bowling? WHAT IF NO ONE SHOWS UP?!
Yes, that’s my main fear. It happened once (my 7th birthday– all my brother’s friends showed up, and only ONE of mine, because everyone else was gone to camp or something) and now everytime I consider having a bday party of any kind, I cancel it because I fear no one will show up.

Okay this was a retarded entry.

And now I have a birthday story for you, mademoiselle.

When I was about 6 or 7 I had the Head of the Table Chair For Very Important Birthday Girls.

All was going swimmingly until I stood up and told a dirty joke.

My mother, aghast, yanked me from the party and dragged me into the bathroom to wash my mouth out with soap.

    hmmm. insecurities suck.

if you had a party and i was anywhere near you, i’d come.

    happy early birthday!

You know I’d soooo be all about a party for you! Everyone deserves to feel special on their birthday! :)

I say go for it…invite people to do something fun…something wild…something outrageous! And if they won’t come because they’re too not kid enough… screw ‘em! ;)

We all have our birthday horror stories (one in particular for me is my Mom making the cool girls in the third grade play antiquated games from the 50s at my b-day party – but I digress) but that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying this year.

No no, I get it. I share that fear that no one will come up. And it goes doubly so for my kid’s bday party! I always dread it when I think she might be disappointed by anyone. So don’t feel that you’re alone in that fear!

Now that’s not to say that you shouldn’t plan something regardless! Even if all you do is tell everyone you’re going to go bowling and invite everyone you pass on the street . . . you’ll probably get at least a couple people show up! And even if you don’t . . who cares in the end? It’s all about YOU babe! Have a wild and crazy day!

    HUGS!
