… down by the river!

So, today is Emilio Estevez’ first birthday. We don’t know that for sure, but based on when we got him and his age at that time, counting backwards, turning around sixteen times and hopping on one foot, we have estimated that today is his birthday.
And he smells like one, too.

Also? We got our eviction notice today. We are to be out of our apartment by May 12th, unless we can come up with the rent money by then bla bla bla. It’s hard to come up with rent money when you are barely covering meds and occasionally food. I’m trying to come up with a good letter to write to the people saying that we can pay them PART of what we owe (basically if we don’t pay any bills or anything, we can save up one months’ rent which is 1/3 of what they want) right away and the rest will come when I go back to work next week plus my income tax refund might be coming in soon plus maybe my insurance will stop dicking around soon — of course I don’t think I’m allowed to use words like “dicking around” in an official letter, and who knows if this will help at all, they probably want the money and want the money NOW. But yeah, just for your information, if we suddenly disappear off the face of the earth? It’s because we’re looking for a van to live in.

I am quite amazed at how zen I’m being about this. So far? No crying or thrashing or gnashing of teeth.

  1. yikes. anything we can do to help? im not exactly rolling in it, but…

are you on the budget plans for your electricty and everything? give all your utility places a call, and see you if currently qualify for any assistance.

    good luck.

  2. Have you talked to/communicated with your landlord about the situation? I would be going to them and explaining that you’ve been on medical leave and how the insurance company is dragging their feet in paying you. Maybe you’ll get lucky and get a sympathetic ear who’ll make payment arrangements with you.

It’s worth a shot at least! *hugs*

  3. Generally the companies do want their money, but they’d prefer to get their money and then get more from you in continued rent than they would to hire people to get you kicked out. Its actually suprising how co-operative they can be, having actually had bailiffs round because of my wife’s debts in my name I’ve kind of had a lot of time to study it.

  4. I once had major problems paying my bills. The worst thing that I ever did was not talk to the people – I ignored them. This pissed them off so much that they just wouldn’t work with me. So the sooner you get to talk to them, the more helpful they will hopefully be.

    And good luck!!! :)

  5. oh my goodness this sounded stressful. You are SO impressive keeping your cool (and how would freaking help, right? still!). You are the Bomb! You want me to tell the creditors that…like a reference? I really think we should all get a HELL of a lot more credit simply for being good human beings…that should show up on the balance sheet. I, for one, could use the extra credit today…but I’d put you in front of me in line (to get the credit, that is). OK, now I’m just whacko talking….but sending you positive energy and all…
