Things I don't like about our apartment:

I don’t like that it is pretty small. That’s not the apartment’s fault, though, it was just built that way.
But it being small makes it difficult to keep tidy, because we have so much STUFF, and nowhere to put it.

I don’t like that there isn’t a fan in the bathroom so everytime you take a shower the windows in the livingroom steam up and the fire alarm goes off (I remedied that by taking the batteries out of the fire alarm but that’s illegal and scares me).

I don’t like that the closet doors are ugly, and are sort of broken, but the superintendent says they’re not really broken so he isn’t gonna fix them.

I don’t like the raggedy carpeting.

I don’t like that the windows leak and then mold grows on the window frames and the superintendent says that that’s condensation and we should just make sure to wipe down our windowframes with a towel every day (scuse me but I don’t want my towels touching scuzzy scuz) and keep our heat off (in winter? right). And it’s not condensation, well, some of it might be, but I have sat here in and watched water pour in during a rainstorm.

I don’t like that the cable which is supposed to be included in our rent is being taken away and yet our rent is being raised. Again.

I don’t like that our appliances only sort of work and when they replace them they replace them with other old appliances that also don’t work quite as they should. But in a different way.

I don’t like that we only have one sink in the kitchen, so it’s hard to rinse the dishes.

I don’t like that I will go into the kitchen, shut all the cupboard doors, and five minutes later I will go back into the kitchen and they are all wide open again.

I don’t like that when you flush the toilet the pipes will more often than not make this really loud noise, which will keep going until you turn the tap in the sink on.

I don’t like that the windows freeze shut in the winter and we can’t get any fresh air.

I don’t like that heat and hot water are electric so our electric bill is about a thousand dollars a month.

I don’t like that the elevators are disgusting Stench Boxes.

Okay. There *are* things I like about the apartment. Such as its triangle-ness. And the superintendent’s wife is really nice. And all my stuff’s already here. And… um… the view from the roof.
And yes, we plan on moving, when we actually have the funds to save up for first and last months’ rent and all that stuff. But right now, I’m doing the dishes, and the kitchen is tiny, and the sink isn’t right, and I felt like whining. Voila.

  1. I also live in an apartment with similar loveliness (the original carpeting from when the place was built in 1970) which the landlord refuses to replace, even though there are holes all the way through to the cement slab the place is built on, but I came here to help YOU. Replacing the smoke detector with a heat detector should stop it from going off when you take a shower, and spraying Tilex on the window frames totally makes the mildew/mold disappear in about 15 minutes and you don’t have to wipe it off or anything, it just dissolves the mold or whatever. The only ancient appliance still in my kitchen is the stove (it’s the same stove from “Married with Children” brown, with darker brown around it, and half the burners just light up but don’t heat) because we had to BUY OUR OWN appliances to replace the broken/dead ones. My landlord will be screwed when we move, he’ll have to buy all the kitchen appliances and replace that 1970′s rug that is completely glued to the floor.
