THE FIRST BLANKET IS ALL TOGETHER!

October 26, 2004 by Louise

Since I am here and don’t really like going out that much (mainly due to the fact that I mainly brought pyjamas with me) I have been doing a lot of knitting and such. I have … uhm. A Christmas present for Rob (email me — louise.mATgmailDOTcom–if you want to know what it is but Mr. Rob don’t even think of emailing me) half done. Half a devil hat for Connie. And my mom and I have been taking turns stitching away at the blanket.
Here is a photo of my mom sewing the last few squares on:

It’s all together now. I will get a really good picture of it tomorrow, because right now we are (well at this very moment Mam is, but sometimes I take over) putting on a crochet border to make it fancy. But EEEEE!!!
The first one’s done! Except for the fanciness! And I’m so proud of you all~!

There are plenty of leftover squares (I’d say around… 10? 15? I didn’t count). If you don’t see all your squares in the blanket here don’t worry because they will be put into the second one. And it’s not because I didn’t like yours or anything. I told my niece and nephew to close their eyes and grab up 24 squares each out of a bag and that’s how things got picked.
So yay! YAY FOR US!!!

I’ve still got squares to send you! I’ve prolly got about 10-13 or so right now and a whole lot more yarn to be using up for this project! If you’d like I’ll send some now and some later… :)

have you gotten mine yet? if not, then i guess that woman at the post office wasn’t kidding about the mail delivery in Canada… (pouting)

Were the scalopped(whoa.. spell check anyone?!) edges difficult for her to work with?? I need to know in case they are so that I can stop making the new ones, lol. I already have about 5 finished and a few more and I’ll be ready to send them off to you. My mother’s coworker’s friend’s great-aunt (got all that?) died and my mom’s coworker
s friend gave my mom’s coworker a bunch of the great-aunt’s left over yarn to my mother. Understand? Some dead woman that we don’t know.. yeah.. we have all of her left over yarn.
So.. uhm.. yeah. We’re making it into squares. :)

Oh yeah, BTW, my mom says on a weekly basis..
“When are we going to send more squares to the Canada lady?”
    Hehe.. the Canada lady. Yeah.

Everyone always wants to know why I’m making all these little squares…and when I say it’s for a project in Canada, they’re like, “What about the homeless people here?” I tell them that I’m contributing to your project now and perhaps sometime in the future I’ll coordinate for the one here in the US….but I can’t imagine how much time it’d take to be able to pull all this together! Go Louise!! :)

Yeah, please let us know about uneven edges, too, cuz I’ve made a few like that….don’t want to make more if it’s a royal pain or something…

  7. Louise says:

The scalloped edges weren’t HORRIBLE to work with or anything so if you like making scalloped edges, go ahead; straight edges were easier but it was nothing extremely difficult. So… do whatcha whatcha whatcha want (whatcha want).

Hi! Just found your site via ‘Pesky Apostrophe’. I’m on an LOA from work and have picked up my knitting needles with a vengence borne of 5 knitless years. I’d love to add to your blanket project if you have room for another 8″ square.
    Cheers,
    Lisa
